The purpose of the Association is to provide a venue for the promotion, development and education about agriculture, industry, sports, recreation and the arts in the community.
The first Salmon Arm Fair was held in 1897. The Salmon Arm and Shuswap Lake Agricultural Association received its Certificate of Incorporation in 1911. The events held on the fair grounds represent the importance of celebrating the agricultural history of Salmon Arm and supporting charitable organizations.
The Association has been the long-time steward of the lands and buildings on the grounds. Various activities and events, such as Roots & Blues Festival, Demolition Derby, Childrens’ Festival, 4-H Events, Relay for Life, horse shows, evangelical meetings, community fund-raisers and public dog walking take place year round. The Memorial Arena opened for public use in 1958. Today the arena is used by all ages from pre-school to seniors participating in soccer, rugby, archery, lacrosse and dance during the winter months. It also houses the indoor exhibits and commercial vendors during the Salmon Arm Fair.
The Salmon Arm Fair is held annually on the weekend after Labour Day. It offers opportunities for all members of the community to showcase their particular expertise and passions by entering the air. Our fair offers local entertainment, livestock exhibits, horticultural displays, arts and crafts, domestic science classes, a midway and a family-friendly atmosphere.
